Performing Arts Center
Located just a block away from the Above the School House Lodging is the Performing Arts Center of Newport; home to one of the finest stages in Oregon. Overlooking the ocean, the center plays host to many local theater, dance & music groups, as well as to performers from around the world. The International Film Series plays here several times throughout each year.  The Above the School House Lodging will provide you with a schedule of events during your stay. (1 block away)

Nye Beach
Historic Nye Beach is just up the street from the Above the School House Lodging. It features great ocean walks, gift shops & restaurants, as well as being home to some of the older historic buildings in Newport. (1 block away)

Oregon Coast Aquarium
You won't want to miss this wonderful aquarium, located just over the Yaquina Bay Bridge in Newport. This facility is ranked among the top aquariums in the country and was recently home to the famous orca whale, Keiko! (less than one-half mile)

Hatfield Marine Science Center
Located next to the Oregon Coast Aquarium is the Marine Science center, a must-see for anyone wishing to learn more about our ocean and surrounding areas. The Center has touch tanks, a movie theater, and many hands-on exhibits and activities for people of all ages. (next to the Aquarium)

Newport Bayfront
Just a quick 10-15 minute walk away is the Bayfront, a charming area that you will want to be sure to visit. Walk along the pier by the fishing boats and visit the many shops that line the street. The Bayfront is filled with many wonderful restaurants and attractions. Bay & ocean tours, as well as fishing excursions, are available for the adventurous. (less than one-half mile)
